The Anthropology of Identities in Contemporary Tensions

In this article, the author summarizes the most influential postulates proposed from the anthropology to approach the problematic of the changing identities of the social groups that traditionally have constituted its study object. It suggests that currently anthropologists are, more frequently, in front of the production of identities rather than cultural identities. The text analyzes the tensions in which the actors of identities movements are trapped due to the dynamics generated in the local-global relation, and the hybridation of cultural productions thanks to the expansion of communications in this phase of globalization.
