Temporal Configurations of Conflicts

We moderns perceive space as infinite, static and three-dimensional, and time as mobile, one-dimensional and uniform. Western thought imagines the latter as the grouping in segments that mark a past, a present and a future, being this chronological reading the one that orders and structures life. In this thinking, the future is the time of promise, projections, hopes or motivations; the present, the ambiguous time in which everything happens anchored to the past or the future, but also the one in which contingencies take place: what happens suddenly, the event, and the past is the place of nostalgia, the historical, the idealized. The articulations between past, present and future are broad, and, depending on how we situate ourselves in front of time (in permanent relation to space), the perspective of the problems will change. Thus, in this dossier we link the temporal imagination to the analysis of various problems in order to better understand this premise in various examples. We believe that the same problem can be understood in different ways if we consider its temporal variables, as well as perceptions of time and experiences around temporality.
