Before Submission

Suggestions for Submitting Scientific Articles to the Colombian Journal of Anthropology (RCA)

  1. Review the range of media outlets interested in your area of contribution and ensure that the RCA is the appropriate publication for your manuscript.
  2. Submit the article for feedback from your colleagues before submission.
  3. Verify that your manuscript complies with the Journal's Editorial Guidelines and Ethics. Documents that do not comply will be returned for revision.
  4. Clearly distinguish between the central argument and the supporting arguments, maintaining coherence throughout the text.
  5. Ensure a balance between empirical and theoretical information. Empirical information should not be limited to simply providing data or exemplifying theoretical concepts or ideas; it should contribute to them. Likewise, ensure that the theoretical aspect is not merely a review of the current state of research, but rather that it is generatively integrated with the empirical dimension.
  6. Ensure the introduction summarizes the relationship between the empirical, analytical, and theoretical components of your work, the methodological approach, and the contributions to the fields in which the article is situated. Introductions should include a presentation of the text's sections. That is: a) the presentation of the argument or objective of each section, and b) how each secondary argument or objective contributes to the overall argument.
  7. Select a clear and concise title that summarizes the text's argument.
  8. Write your manuscript in equally clear and concise language.
  9. The abstract should contain the most important information from the article, keeping the following in mind:
  • Avoid overly long sentences that distract from the main topic.
  • Avoid quotations and use only internationally recognized acronyms and abbreviations.
  • Ensure the abstract is consistent. It should not include information not found in the text. Prepare the abstract when the article is finished, once you have delved deeper into the topic and gained a detailed understanding of the work's content.
  1. Select keywords that are standardized terms and reflect the content of the manuscript.
  2. Some stylistic errors you can avoid:
  • Excessively long paragraphs.
  • Sequential strings of ideas joined by commas.
  • Excessive use of subordinate clauses (set off by commas, parentheses, or dashes).
  • Abstract or generalizing ideas that lack empirical or theoretical support in your work or in the work of others.
