About the Journal
The Colombian Journal of Anthropology (RCA) began publication in 1953 as the official publication of the newly created Colombian Institute of Anthropology. It replaced the Journal of the National Ethnological Institute and the Archaeology Bulletin and, since then, has reflected trends in disciplinary research carried out in the country and served as a tool for disseminating and critically discussing advances in the field of anthropology at the national and international levels.
The RCA is a scientific serial publication that appears in January, May and September at the beginning of each period. Its main objective is to publish research results in order to contribute to the development and dissemination of knowledge in the discipline of anthropology. It is aimed at the community of researchers, teachers, professionals, and students of anthropology and the social sciences.
The institution responsible for its funding, editing, and digital publication is the Colombian Institute of Anthropology and History (ICANH). The journal does not charge authors for any reason, and all content published by RCA in its digital version (HTML and PDF files) is open access and free to download. The journal uses the Open Journal Systems online editorial management system for the receipt, processing, and publication of manuscripts.
The RCA has a digital preservation policy through Portico and CLOCKSS, guaranteeing a permanent and secure archive. By being preserved in these archives, the journal subscribes to a comprehensive approach to digital preservation that combines long-term content management with the mission of addressing the needs of future scholars.
The RCA accepts unpublished contributions in Spanish, including scientific research articles, reflection articles, review articles, short articles, case reports, and reviews. Its structure includes a thematic dossier, a section on methodological issues, a miscellaneous section, and a section dedicated to reviews.
The journal evaluates all articles received using the Turnitin plagiarism detection tool. Authors must declare that the text is their own, unpublished, and that they respect the intellectual property rights of third parties. They also give their consent for the work to be published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 license. Reviewers indicate on the evaluation form that they do not know the author and have no conflict of interest with the topics to be reviewed.
