Vulnerable Victims, Sexual Violence, and Judicial Cases Involving Workers of Moroccan Origin in the Fields of Huelva, Spain (2018-2023)

In this article, I analyze how judicial authorities—both men and women—process cases of sexual violence against Moroccan seasonal women workers in the strawberry fields of Huelva, Spain. Drawing on ethnographic research, I reconstruct the social and political conditions that produce these women as vulnerable victims and uphold their access to local courts in pursuit of justice. By understanding these courts as contested arenas, the article reveals how judges’ decisions in shaping judicial truth ultimately legitimize the exclusion of these workers as vulnerable victims, socially reposition the accused employers, and moralize conflicts and sexual violence occurring in the strawberry fields. Overall, this article aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationships between migration, politics, rights, and state agencies.
