Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The text respects the publication rules of the RCA
  • The author of the manuscript adheres to the editorial ethics of the RCA
  • The manuscript complies with RCA's editorial ethics on the use of AI.

Author Guidelines

Items that are presented to the RCA must be original and at the time of presentation should not be under evaluation nor have publishing commitments with any other publication. If the author of a manuscript published in the Colombian Journal of Anthropology want to include whole or in part in another publication, you must have the authorization of ICANH and explain the credits of the original publication.

  • Dates for receipt of contributions for both dossiers to the miscellaneous section are reported in the respective calls available on our website (See calls).
  • All contributions should be sent to the Open Journal Systems (see rules for submitting manuscripts).
  • Email is the privileged means of communication with authors during the evaluation process and editing.
  • The RCA subjected all contributions to a plagiarism detection software. If it detects partial or total plagiarism, without proper citation, the text will be rejected and will be communicated to the author the reason for it.
  • Authors should indicate the source of research and funding source where appropriate.

Upon receipt of a contribution he refers to author a confirmation email along with the detailed report of the evaluation process with steps and deadlines thereof. To continue the process, the magazine understands that the author accepts the editorial policies of RCA and undertakes to respect the editorial adjustments proposed by both peer reviewers and by the editorial team of the RCA. Meet this requirement is essential to continue the evaluation process.

Then the editorial team of the RCA evaluates whether the contribution meets the basic requirements (unpublished character, plagiarism detection, citation norms and formal presentation) and its relevance for inclusion in a publication of anthropological character (target frame theoretical methodology, originality, conclusions and bibliography). If the contribution meets the requirements of form and content, the articles are submitted to two anonymous evaluation of national and international referees. If the text warrants minor corrections, the editorial team can request them before sending the job to external peers; If the editorial team warns that the text does not meet the requirements will notify the author rejection, explaining the reasons behind the decision.

The evaluation process is anonymous to the parties. The results of the evaluation authors report no later than six months from receipt of the item, sending them the format of each evaluation and the committee's comments, if any. In case of exceeding this period, the journal will contact the authors. The final decision to publish or reject articles is notified by a written opinion issued by the editorial team of the RCA.

Authors must make the adjustments required by external evaluators and the editorial team within which it was directed. After receiving the modified article, the authors informed about their approval or need for further revisions. The magazine reserves the last word on the publication of the articles and the issue in which will be included also reserves the right to make corrections and editorial style settings.

The authors of the texts accepted yield the Colombian Institute of Anthropology and History, by signing the transfer agreement patrimoniales' rights, the use of economic rights (reproduction, public communication, processing and distribution), to include the text in the Colombian Journal of Anthropology, in printed and electronic version as well as citation indices (see national and international Indexation). In this document the authors confirm that the text of his own, unpublished, and that it respects the intellectual property rights of third parties. The Colombian Journal of Anthropology does not charge authors costs editorial processes and provides authors with two copies of the issue in which their contribution has been published. 

Artículo de investigación científica

Artículo de investigación científica: documento que presenta de manera detallada y clara los resultados originales de proyectos de investigación.

Artículo de reflexión

Artículo de reflexión: documento que presenta resultados de investigación terminada desde una perspectiva analítica, interpretativa o crítica del autor sobre un tema específico, recurriendo a fuentes originales.

Artículo de revisión

Artículo de revisión: documento resultado de una investigación terminada donde se analizan, sistematizan e integran los resultados de investigaciones publicadas o no publicadas, sobre nuestro campo de investigación, con el fin de dar cuenta de los avances y las tendencias de desarrollo. Este tipo de contribución se caracteriza por ofrecer una cuidadosa y nutrida revisión bibliográfica.

Artículo corto

Artículo corto: documento breve que presenta resultados originales preliminares o parciales de una investigación.

Reporte de caso

Reporte de caso: documento que presenta los resultados de un estudio sobre una situación particular con el fin de dar a conocer las experiencias técnicas y metodológicas consideradas en un caso específico. Incluye una revisión sistemática comentada de la literatura sobre casos análogos.

Reseñas bibliográficas

Reseñas bibliográficas: las reseñas deben ser críticas y versar sobre libros que sean actuales y/o pertinentes para la disciplina antropológica o las ciencias sociales y humanas. Además, deben tener por objeto textos que no hayan sido suficientemente reseñados.
